I had a new hard drive installed and now the CD burner won't close. The drawer closes, the light flashes and the drawer opens back up

Try booting to safemode and see if it still does it. If not, it's probably some software of some sort causing it and you can use msconfig to turn things of until you find the one that's causing it. I ran into this once, and it turned out it was being caused by creative disc detector. It's part of the software package that comes with some soundblaster cards. I don't know why it acted that way as I've never seen it do that on any other computer and I didn't pursue it any further. The people who owned the computer never used it anyway.

It won't even stay closed if I stop in the BIOS. Looks like it's back to the shop.

Seems like it is not happy about something. Can only think to check that the data (ribbon) cable is connected correctly...connector with the longest strip goes to the motherboard; coloured side goes to pin 1 on both ends. Check the master/slave jumper settings. If it is set to CS (cable select) then any other drive on that cable must also be jumpered to CS.

Run through the installation instructions for it, the manual should be available at the manufacturers website if you don't have it handy.

Thanks, I was hoping it was some easy fix, I'll just take it back to the shop that just installed the drive.
