    Hello room,

I think I know the answer but here's hoping I'm wrong.

I installed XPHome over the top of 98SE and when the wizard asked me if I wanted to convert to NTFS I said yes. In doing so I apparrently wiped out the 98 files. .....

Here's the question is there any way that those files can be recovered? I wiped out my MS Office etc. and Those files were on an HP Pavillion for which they provided a recover disk and not the original software that could be reinstalled. Here's the question is there any way that those files can be recovered?

Are you trying to recover documents that were produced by Office or Office itself?

If Office is gone, it may be, well, gone, unless your recovery CD has a separate folder containing the installation of Office and you can reinstall it from that folder without invoking the full recovery precedure and really messing things up.

The conversion from FAT to NTFS should not have destroyed/removed/whatever any files unless there was a major problem with the conversion.

However, XP will store a user's personal files in a very different location than 9X/ME uses.

Are you positive you've lost files or have they just been relocated?
