I would like to use the fax facility in Works Suite but since I do not now use the internal modem how can I make my router/ethernet the default for fax use?

You have to use the modem. If it's still installed and shows up in device manager and all is working properly, all you should have to do is enter the phone number you want to fax to into the fax program. It doesn't matter whether you're using the modem for internet service or not. In other words, it's not necessary to make a dialup networking connection for it.

I should add that you may have to select the modem in the fax software for the connection. If you currently have the modem disabled it won't show up. I'm not familiar with the fax program in works so I can't really tell you where this stuff is at. Have a look at the help file. It'll probably be in there.

    Zander,
I can see where you are coming from but if I decide to reinstall my 56k modem card I would then have to plug in my phone cable which is aready being used by my Netgear router I do not see how I can use both.

Do you have any working phones in your house?

And to be sure I'm clear, your netgear router is handling a normal telephone line or a DSL line?

I have four phones all running from one BT DSL line which allows me to be on the net via the Netgear DG814 Router and use the phone at the same time.

You should be able to plug a phone line into the modem just as if it were a 5th phone then I think.

Note the I Think though. Someone years ago told me that electrons flowed. I decided that was a good thing but it all got way too technical for me after that.

I do know from reading that voice & ringer only occupy a very small part of the bandwidth on a DSL line but am not clear enough on exactly how that works to be positive about running a fax modem. Harmless to try though.
