I use WIN 98 Password to protect the privacy of my computer, but recently I found that, when the window opens asking for password, if you just click "cancel" you're in. Is there any way where nothing but the password will open up Windows?
    Thanks,
    Mick

Win98 has no built in security as such. You must use a 3rd party tool to password protect win98 else use a bios password.

If use a bios password do not forget it else you will not be able to boot the computer at all.

    Hi Mick

TonyT's reply about using the BIOS seems a good one, but if you don't feel confident enough to try altering those settings then it's best not to.

Here are a few sites you might care to look at which provide info on software available which will do what you want:

This links to a description of "Jammer" & there's the option to download a copy if you want to (I'm pretty sure it's freeware).

This link is for a description of "Folder Lock" which does more than you've asked about, but you may find it useful nonetheless. It's not freeware, but you can download a free trial version.

Finally, here's a link for a review of WinLock and an option to download it. From the info you've given, this probably also exceeds your needs. You might lke to read about it anyway.

Other BBS contributors may, of course, have further suggestions. Please post back to let everyone know how you get on.

    Best wishes

Another option: Leave your computer on and use a screen saver password

Dansouza's post about using the screensaver password option works, of course, but provides only extremely rudimentary protection - all anyone has to do to to thwart it is to reboot using Ctrl+Alt+Del &, when the system restarts, bypass the login password using 'Esc' as Mick's first post mentioned.

I installed the "Jammer" software MartinBerry suggested and I think that is Great. It's easy to install and very easy to use, and best of all, IT WORKS.
If you're concerned about privacy, you might try it. Really does the job!!!
