Normally I use a RISC/Unix combo for VXF..I am trying to get Netscape up & running for my niece..Netscape 7.0 & W98..All graphics & /or images are hopeless..They look like my 4 y/o's finger painting..Muddy/murky..Base colors change with each web site..Some are yellow, dark Brown,or blue. I have tried installing 7.0 about 6 times..I am probably just stupid, but she wants it to work..Thanks in advance

I have Win98 and I went through all Netscapes7.0,7.01.7.02 and now 7.1. My images and graphics look fine. But, on the other hand, I don't use your machine.
You can change the settings, but I can't think of a way to mess up the graphics in the way you describe. Any particular website? You will need some kind of Java plugin, in some case. Look at this, CBS network site. http://www.cbs.com/

    Welcome to the Forum, Burbank!

    Hi Burbank,

Sounds like a graphics card problem to me, but I could be wrong. Does your niece have the latest drivers installed?

If you haven't installed the Sun Java plugin you might follow Westside's advice and do so. You can download the plugin from the Sun site:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
The most current Version is: J2SE v 1.4.2_03 JRE

I also run Windows 98SE and for Netscape 7.1 and Mozilla 1.6b, I use
Sun Java 1.4.2, which works without flaw on my system.
    It can be downloaded here:
    http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/1.4.2/index.html

Have you enabled Java and JavaScript in Preferences?

Hi Ramona..My late brother had more money than computer skills..It is a Dell factory box, loaded to the max..512 ram.60GB-HD..Ellen wants to use Daddy's computer..I have used elimation to an idea..I put in the lastest Matrox drivers,& the Java download..No difference..Any pic/graphic is a series of layers, like a finger painting.I used his CD,& downloaded on 5 different Linux boxes..3 different Linux OS..7.0 worked on all 5 boxes..One Linux box had the same Matrox graphic card..It worked fine..Then it dawned on me..The local baby bell turned its internet services over to Yahoo..They use an IE variant..To placate older users, their Yahoo services will use NS 4.5 or older..That is what opens up the ISP services on this box..The graphics are perfect with NS 4.5..Now I need to know if having two different Netscapes running at once can be the cause of my problem??Or is 7.0 not in tune with their servers?? Ramona next time I am in your town,we can meet at Powell's bookstore & chew the fat..I have a funny story about George Lucas & Cray computers to tell you...Regards

    Hi Burbank,

Multiple Versions of Netscape can run contiguously without a problem.

SBC-Yahoo is Netscape friendly, and I have installed Netscape on my daughter's PC using, that ISP. No problems experienced, running Windows 98SE.

Your description of the layers does give me a thought however:

    Try this:
Delete the localstore.rdf file, located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt
(Depending on your OS) Profiles Folder Location
    In the same *.slt folder:
    Delete the entire "chrome" folder

A shot in the dark, but could help. Let us know if you continue to have problems.

One other suggestion, if the above doesn't help. Create a new Profile, and see if you have the same graphics distortion.
