xp s1a but now oleaut32.dll probs

    downloaded windows update sp1a... now some programs will not run,,,some kind of error to do with missing oleaut32.dll links or ordinals. tried many forums for fixes ( eg vbrun60.exe etc and searching for new oleaut thingys but no luck . ps... i am a computer idiot... "see spot run" type help appreciated

    Search for oleaut32.dll (Object Linking and Embedding Automation Dynamic Link Library) and see if you have one in your System32 folder. Right-click it and see what version it is and report it here, please. You may find other copies of it in folders for particular applications. If those are a different version and they are in the folders of apps that you are having trouble with, report those versions as well.

    For a first attempt at a fix, you might try this---->

    Go to Start > Run and type:

    regsvr32 /u oleaut32.dll

    Click OK.

    Then, the same only:

    regsvr32 oleaut32.dll

    Click OK.
