Up until a week ago, Outlook Express was my only mail program. Recently I installed Office 2003 and now use Office Outlook as my default mail program.

However, after numerous attempts at checking and unchecking boxes in both mail programs to designate and undesignate the Default mail programs, Express still pops up when I select the "send to Mail recipient ".

Express also takes over when I click on the "Mail" icon on Internet Explorer.

How do I get Express from taking over? Is there something I can change in the Registry with the Sendto function?

    Thanks
    dgs

In IE, click on tools, options, programs. The setting is there.

I'm going to assume you're using XP. Go to add/remove programs in control panel. On the left side click 'set program access and defaults'. Click custom and see if you can change it there.

Did you also check the Programs tab in "IE options" and make sure Outlook is default and not outlook express?

Yes, I am using XP Pro & MSOffice Outlook 2003.

"I'm going to assume you're using XP. Go to add/remove programs in control panel. On the left side click 'set program access and defaults'. Click custom and see if you can change it there "

I checked this but I dont' have that option  I also went to the registry editor as the other post suggested. Still doesn't do it for me.

I have even deleted the email account in Express. Now when I right click an image and select 'send to/mail recipient' it pops up that I need to set up a new account.

I have checked again, and again that Outlook is the default mail client in IE and made sure that Express is not the default. Something is definitely wonky with IE. When I click the Mail Icon to READ mail, Outlook opens. When I select New Message - Express opens.

How I love this challenge! :D

"File types" tab in "folder options" via any opened folders toolbar.

What program is The "url mail to protocol" association or set to open with? If outlook express change it to outlook.

This should take care of at least one the association problems.

    I checked it...

    "C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~3\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" -c IPM.Note /m "%1 "

    Looks right to me.

I can't figure this out... I am sure it's an IE 6 issue... and I just did a reinstall but to no avail...

Beats the heck out of me. That's the right url protoca lsetting for outlook.

    How about.....

For OL98 or 2000, shut down all programmes and run the following command from start/run. Type it exactly as it appears, including the quote marks. The only thing that may be different is your path to "outlook.exe ". Change it accordingly.

    "c:\program files\microsoft office\office\outlook.exe" /checkclient

Then go to IE tools, internet options, programs and select Outlook as your default email client.

How about deleting the shortcut in the 'send to' folder and dropping in a new one?

Quite frankly, I don't know. It was just one of those 'seems like a logical solution' ideas. I don't even know if it's possible. I don't have outlook and have just recently started using express, but I will research it. Maybe, in the meantime, someone who does know will enlighten us.

I did find this MSKB Article which tells how to reassociate the mapimail file. May work for you even if none of the other issues apply to you (AOL).
