    New P.C. Graphics problem ; (

    Hi.
First of all, - Happy New Year to Newt and everyone else that uses / helps out at WindowsBBS :)
Secondly, I have Just built my Girlfriend a new P.C. for Christmas, and I'm having a bit of trouble with the graphics.
I'm using an Asrock K7VM2 which has built in S3 ProSavageDDR graphics and the problem I have is the machine will not boot up while the graphics card is enabled.
If the drivers are uninstalled before shutdown, then the machine boots up, reconises the graphics, loads the drivers and works fine.
    If the graphics are not uninstalled before rebooting then I get a BSOD with a different fault each time. The last 5 attempts gave me;

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA - CLASSPNP.SYS

    SYMEVENT.SYS

    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - USBUHC1.SYS

    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - CLASSPNP.SYS

However, if I disable the graphics, rather than uninstalling the drivers, it reboots fine, allows me to have 32bit colours and the screen resolution I want - in other words, it works properly!!
Shall I just leave it like this as it works, or can anyone offer a solution for this strange problem...?
btw, have upgraded BIOS for mobo to latest, and tried all available drivers for the gfx.

    Many thanks

    Spotta

It might be more helpfull if we knew the Operating System that was being used.

And also if you are trying to run a video card and onboard graphics at the same time? Disable the onboard graphics chip through the BIOS if this is the case.

Disable in the BIOS settings or disable the drivers in Windows?

    BIOS:
I am setting up a system with the same onboard graphics. I'm not sure what you mean by "disable the graphics ". To disable the onboard graphics you have to set the Onboard VGA Shared Memory to "none" (note that if you do then you will need an "add in" PCI or AGP card to restart it or clear the CMOS, the onboard graphics will be disabled and the screen will be blank).
    Which settings are you changing?

    Hi all,

The P.C. is running Win XP Pro
and I'm using the onboard graphics.

what I mean by disabling the graphics, is right clicking in device manager, and choosing disable, it then appears with a red cross on it, but works fine and allows me to boot up without a BSOD

    thanks

I'm assuming that you installed the motherboard drivers when you built the computer, correct?

You could have a defective board (graphics chip). It might be incompatible RAM. I got similar messages with my setup. I changed the videocard and finally the RAM. All's good now.

Could try booting to Safe Mode. Check in Add/Remove programs for any reference to the video. Go to Hardware Manager and remove any listings for video. Reboot. Rerun the drivers installation program. (You may want to check if Asrock have updated drivers for it).
