    :) :) :) I just got GUI!!!!!!!!!!

    I still haven't transfered back the old backed up system files, but after adding...

    DEVICE=C:\Windows\Ifshlp.sys

    to C:\Config.sys as suggested in theMicrosoft article, I ignored the stram of failed dependancies (I think I have a bit of rehashing of config.sys) and I'm now in Win95!!!! :)

    ...I must add that this currenly only happens after I am dumpted into command prompt, then endter C:\WINDOWS and launch 'win' from there... hopefully this will fix when I restore autoexec.bat etc.

    Coool! Thanks a heap! - I'm off to bed for real now :)

    Success!!!!!

    Sure - here was a lot of extra tweaking to do, but finally we got there! THe computer now boots into Windows and I've gotten rid of dependency errorswhich were causedby old registry settings. Turns out the original invalid system disk error was caused by a corrupt io.sys file, but othre system giles, conig.sys autoexec.bat and the like, all had things done to them which ould make the computer impossible to boot. I reckon they must have run a trojan somewheres, although I've not been able to detect it by selectively scanning sys files (via floppy) from my main computer. Like many laptops, this computer has different programs to run things like screen settings (using the control panel option causes the system to lose faith" in the settings on next start up) so it has not been an easy task.

    P.S: How do I disable hardware profiles? It's this annoying box that comes up on start up asking me if I'm "docked" or "undocked ". I deleted "undocked" from control panel >> System >> Hardware profiles once, but then it auto added anotehr profile at a later time :confused:
