Slow program startup

It's not a big deal, but for some reason when I launch IE from the desktop of my new Dell Inspiron 500, it takes about 10 seconds for the program to start launching.

This despite the fact that all my other programs launch immediately. This also despite the fact that I've pared down my startup program list to two measly programs, the disk is regularly cleaned and defragged, and all in all I've got a lean clean machine.

Any ideas why only IE has this sluggish response?

Start with a cleanup (purge your temporary files, scandisk, etc, etc) and pay a visit to this page.

 

Although I agree with brett that spyware is the most likely culprit, have you also turned off XP's unnecessary services? If not, I've found Black Viper's site the easiest to read...and the links to explanations of each service are handy.

My disk is egularly cleaned and defragged, and I've already turned off all unnecessary services. But I'll run spybot and see what it comes up with. Thanks again.
