Recently I've been unable to open some attachments in OE6, using XP. The ones I'm having trouble with are coming from Netscape and IE, both. The attachement shows in the "Attach" space as the normal little envelope, but there is also an IE icon there with (in this last case, for instance) ATT00055.htm (202 bytes).

I have no idea what I've done to create this problem, but I'll bet it's an easy fix for someone out there. Help, please.

You may have your OE set to read HTML messages in Plain Text and are having trouble with this type of attachment since it's in HTML.

You can make sure by looking at Tools~Options~Read tab. With SP1 and maybe earlier versions, it could be set to 'Read all messages in plain text'. Some folks do this as a safety precaution since it would prevent any dangerous HTM code from running. Personally, I prefer to use good AV software and look at the attachments as they were written.

You should be able to save the attachment and then open it with your browser to see what it contains though.

Hi, Newt. Thanx for responding. It was set to read plain text. I changed that, but now OE is stopping the attachments. Does that mean I need to check "Do not allow . . . " in Security?
