Sorry for the dutch. I forgot.
    Once more.
Because my Outlook XP starts up before Norton Anti Spam, it misses the plug-in and I have to stop and start Outlook to fix that.
How can I prevent Outlook from starting with the os?

Go the Start>All Programs>Startup and delete Outlook (right click on it, choose Delete).

If it's not there, although I'm fairly sure it will be, go to Start>Run, type in "msconfig" (without the quotes), click OK. Find the entry for Outlook there and remove the check, click OK.

It is in neither that is why I could not find it.
When I close Outlook I still see an active Outlook in the Taskmanager. I suppose that is the one I want to close.

It may be starting as part of a MS Office launch at startup. If so and unless you need that to happen (most do not), you could disable the Office launch. I think all you lose is having the toolbar start when you log on.

Outlook also uses IE's connection settings, so if IE is enabled at startup Outlook may start with it.

Outlook remaining in Task Manager as a running process after it's been shut down is one of its little problems that convinced me to stop using it.

It's possible that at some time in the past, Outlook was running when the computer was shut down so, since nothing else has worked, try this: Shut Outlook down in Task Manager then go to My Computer>Tools>Folder Options>View tab, scroll down to and uncheck "Restore previous folder windows at logon," click OK. See if that has any effect.

It is not the remaining active that bothers me but the starting with windows startup although it seems a problem linked to the same source.

btw, how do I get a .jpg into this window?

Grab a copy of StartupList. Run it and then copy and post the results.

I can't see anything in that list which would explain Outlook's automatic start and I can only think that it's being called by one of the other startup programs. Disabling the startup programs one-by-one followed by a reboot is the only (time consuming) way I can think of to ID the culprit.

    Last attempt.
The image is an partial screenview from the program Taskinfo. Taken just after Windows startup.
    Note the embedding parameter.
    Is this the one?

    I got it.
    Pretty stupid as always.
I use RVScom from Living BYte Software, a german fax program.
I configured it to store incoming stuff in the Outlook inbox.
Thus, after autostarting RVScom, Outlook is embedded.

    Thanks for thinking with me.

    Peter.
