I have a folder on my 'D' drive called ArtWork that has 141 folders and 4,102 files.

I want to create the thumbnail view just for these folders but retain 'Details' for ALL other folders within explorer.
So I went into the folder ArtWork and selected properties/customize/ and selected "Pictures (best for many files) and ticked the box "also apply this template to all subfolders ".

The proplem is that all of the subfolders do not change to thumbnail view and are still in "Detail" view (my default).

Why does XP not reconise the sub folders command, and it will be a tedious task to change each folder.

Where am I going wrong, any help would be appreciated.

    thumbnails

The "view" and the "tools" have diff global effects only for that menu under it's heading! I have had to set view/thumnails on all sub folders only once tho:) The Tools/folder options "apply to all folders" doesn't do what YOU want:D

So I presume what you are saying is that the sub folder command does not work, So why do they put these commands in when they have no use at all?

I have no clue why bill & wife did this to you;) Prolly to help build character! However did you know you can change the size of those thumys in each of those sug folders? I love all these options, but I get the your point also! There may be a third party software that will do this "Globaly" at windoze explorer:D

Settings through the VIEW > CUSTOMIZE THIS FOLDER sets the folder type as seen in the TASK Bar to the left ie: Get Pictures etc. for photos and Play All if Music is selected etc.. Notice the watermark at lower right; they indicate what one should expect in the TASKS.

To RESET all folders under the parent folder, change the setting to something else such as Documents and press APPLY. Then reset to Photos or whatever you want with -- apply this to sub folders -- checked and all 141 folders should be reset.
    .
take a look at TOOLS > FOLDER OPTIONS > VIEW and set the check box --Remember each Folder's View settings If checked each sub folder may be set to icons, detail or whatever without all changing but will stay at the last setting, unless changed back to thumbnail manually. Try both and see what I mean.

Thanks for the reply, but whatever I do I either get the whole hard drive showing thumbnails or all details.

Unticking the box "Remember each Folder's View settings" converted the whole drive to thumbnails, but with it ticked I managed to get all off the art folder to go to thumbnails, but then I do not want to change all of the other folders to details.

I think I will have to live with details for every folder, You would not think it would be so hard to change one folder and the sub folders to one view without effecting ALL of the other folders. XP is good but the simple things still smack of Win95.
