    Hi,
on 12/8/03 I installed Netscape 7.1 on same Windows XP as my 4.76 release. The email folders were automatically converted and moved to 7.1. However Address book was not. So I exported as .csv file and imported in to 7.1 Address Book.

The Address book (200+ entries) was successfully imported. There were 3 group Lists with the Address Book with anywhere from 9 to 28 entries in the 3 lists.

What happened was that the Address book was imported successfully but the Lists were missing 1-2 entries for each list. There was no error message, they just weren't imported into 7.1

I tried exporting the list by itself and then importing them one at a time into an empty List. The import worked but even though I selected the Address Book, they went into a separate Address book by itself. I tried dragging this separate Address book into my Address Book but was not able to.

What should I do to get the Address book from 4.7 that has group Lists to Address book on 7.1?

    Thanks,
    Ken

    Welcome to the Forum, kenlanderson!

    Hi Ken,

To move your Personal Address Book and all Lists in the Personal Address Book:

Open Communicator and then the Address Book
    Click on: File | Export
    Highlight the Personal Address Book
Name the file and Save as an LDIF file
    Close Communicator

    Open Netscape 7.1
    Open Address Book
    Click on: Tools | Import
Select: Address Book | Text file (LDIF file....
Browse to the LDIF file you saved

Your Address Book and Lists should be intact. You should then be able to drag and drop all entries to any other Address Book or List.

Should work saving as csv, but I did go through the whole process saving as LDIF, and everything on my lists in 4.79 were imported into 7.1.

Thank you, Ramona. I will try using LDIF instead and let you know how that worked.
    I appreciate the help,
    Ken

    Hi,
I tried using LDIF and found that the Address book transferred fine. Two lists (one with 28 entries and one with 8 entries) transferred correctly also.
One list with nine entries had two dropped. I reviewed entries closely and found that they were fine. Then I did the following:
    1. Added an entry so there were 10, still same two entries were dropped.
    2. Deleted name from list and then added it back in. Still dropped
    3. Deleted the entry from Address book and added the same name & email address in again. Then worked fine and all entries transferred.

So there must have been something corrupted for those two names. Do you know if there is a repair program to run against the address book for Net 4.7?

My wife has a PC on 4.7 and I will be smarter for hers when we migrate to Net 7.1 but I would like to make it less error prone.

    Thanks much,
    Ken

    Hi Ken,

Glad to hear that your Address Book Export/Import went well. No doubt the two entries were corrupt.
Sorry, but to the best of my knowledge, there is no such program for Netscape Communicator's Address Book.
