My old configuration of ECS K7S5A AMD850MHz Athlon system started acting up when I plugged in and installed a SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 PCI card. Every so often and without any systematics to it, the BIOS date would revert back to the latest flash date.
With my knowledge I suspected the battery. It was changed without any corrections. It contiuned to revert back.
Using it as an excuse, I upgraded to PCChips M848LU and 2600+ AMD2.06Athlon...same SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 PCI card.
Everything ran fine until last night...the BIOS went back to the manufactured date!
What in the world is going on? I definitly suspect the soundcard now, but HOW IN THE WORLD would the soundcard cause this to happen?!
No suggestions that it's the battery, please! (It's a brand new motherboard)

Can only think that it may be your PSU or the mains power that could be causing it.

Nah, it's a quirk of the board. Check and make sure your processor speed didn't get reset it BIOS, too. I have found that clearing CMOS usually makes it stop for weeks or months, but the problem always comes back. Also, keep an eye on your temps. It's a great board, but it has its idiosyncrasies. There are well documented problems with it. See here for more info. BTW, I downloaded the free Atomic Clock from http://www.worldtimeserver.com/ to save the aggravation of resetting the time and date (sometimes mine goes back to year 1601!)

Johanna...VERY nice reading at the link for the K7S5A board, but in my original post, please note "I upgraded to PCChips M848LU and 2600+ AMD2.06Athlon...same SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 PCI card" and STILL had the problem.
Still think it's the mainboard? Perhaps they are both made simiar?

I'm going to try another soundcard...maybe something on it's causing voltages to go screwy...
