Granddaughters of 15 years should never be allowed near a confuzer.

Selah. (and ain't THAT the truth, then?)

I've a major problem... I can't change my home page [[in IE 6.0.2600.0000IS]] . My lovely , talented, beautiful and (soon-to-be-very-dead) computer-challenged granddaughter is here for a visit...

"PawPaw, is it OK if I check my email? "

    "Sure... just don't download anything I wouldn't..."

    HAH!

Ah, the stupidity of a 60-year-old faced with such nubilosity!

She immediately (of course) downloaded AOL Instant messenger as well as Yahoo Instant messenger (email my ass... she wanted to chat online with her sex-objects!) and in the process "something" got added to the computer which has invalidated the "change homepage" option in TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS in Explorer. Little bugger is now 'greyed out' and unchangeable.

I've already gone to control panel and "adios'ed" both of the offending programmes (that seems to have minimized the number of popup ads that suddenly appeared on my previously pristine sign-in-page (can you tell that I'm ******?) ) but now the option to change homepages is "GREYED OUT" and inaccessible.

Ran ADAWARE and SPYBOT which BOTH hung up about 5/8 thru the process(... that's the first time they did THAT!) so I don't have a reliable 'junk-programe report' for yez, and I checked both MSCONFIG and CONFIG.SIS with no programmes shewing up in there, so I'm at a bit of a standstill on this.

    I'm stumped.

Hopefully someone wi' a wee bit more knowledge is on line tonite..(Eigh, Lonny...I love yez truly, but yer English is a bit hard tae muster then, d'ye ken?)

My respects tae yez all and the wishes of a (wee bit belated but nonetheless heartfelt Happy Holidays) and an unusally effusive Scottish "thank-you" to all who consider this worth a reply!

    An Fauligh A Sc'ot Abu!

    Hi pippopottomus,

Sorry to hear about your "confuzer" problem and IE's homepage.

This is what you can do to make your PC "pristine" again:
    1) Download HijackThis v1.97.7
    1a. executable: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe
    1b. zipped: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip
    2) Run HijackThis.exe! But, do NOT fix anything. Save the log to your harddrive.
    3) Read the rules for posting your saved log to the SpywareInfo forums: http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=24&t=5187
    4) Post your log. Some knowledgable person will be there to help you.

    Good luck,

Gee I cant think of anything that would couse both to hang,, have you tried running them while in safe mode ?

    >Duk< some folks forget that through control panel Internet options the homepage setting is always greyed out :)

    Lonny

    Hi Lonny Jones & pippopottomus,

Oops! Sorry about that. I didn't think that it would be necessary to post the other link/s.

    Here is Merijn's homepage:
    http://www.merijn.org/

Use the navigation window on the left to access other areas.

    Happy New Year,
