    hello,
win95B communicator 4.77 unable to load Web sites (reload sometimes helps)
there's instructions on creating a new profile renaming nsreg.dat (in windows) and eventually moving important files to the new profile
    1. it states to move abook.nab to the newly created profile (also bookmark.htm and mail)
HOWEVER i do not have abook.nab i have several fileName.na2 -- are these address books?
    2. when i rename nsreg.dat there's no trace of the old profiles -- just want to know whether this is normal
    3. (antiVirus scans are negative) today noted a "cache" folder in the mail (with nn open -- not via win explorer) which has a + sign and it states "can't find file" but expands and clicking on 1 <any> of the subfolders under this cache folder "C:\path\...doesn't look like mail try to open anyway "
has anyone seen this before (i have moved it (it does not empty with the regular cache emptying) but it did not help the no loading situation)
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

    Hi Tanya,

I think you might have been following instructions for Netscape 7, rather than for Communicator.

The Communicator Address Book is named pab.na2.

If you delete, or rename the nsreg.dat file, then when you open Communicator, it will prompt for a new Profile name. You must give the same Profile name as the existing Profile. Is this what you have done? It is definitely not necessary to copy files or folders when creating the new Netscape Registry (nsreg.dat). This is why you use the same Profile name as the existing Profile.

You aren't creating a new Profile, you are creating a new Netscape Registry.

    Ramona :D

    thank you, Ramona!

well i had an entire thesis here but nn unFortunately had an illegal op and i lost it
    briefly:
i did not (i haven't started) use the same name which would make matters far easier...
just wondered whether overwriting into the same directory would lose anything *valuable* or would not get rid of the problem although i really do think that a new netscape registry would solve things as the unWillingness to load is affecting all profiles.

(i have now copied all of netscape (comm. nn, users and the original nsreg.dat) to my 2nd drive)

so i will give it a try and post back
    thanks again!
    and Happy Holidays!
    sincerely
    Tanya
