Win2000 invariably freezes on Restarting, but I can shut down and reboot from cold OK. Of course some installers force you to restart which is a real pain. The freeze occurs during the first Windows colour screen, when the progress bar is about 50%, just after the keyboard is initialised (you see the NumLock/CapsLock/ScrollLock LEDs flash). I then have to press the Reset button, then start up in Safe Mode, then shut down and reboot. I have SP4 installed. I can't find anything relevant in the MS Knowledge Base.

    Gemini,
Have seen that happen before I have no idea why. But when we uninstalled SP4, everything returned to normal. You could try to uninstall then reinstall and see if you get the same results.
