XP Pro wont search, or write cdr's

not happy, changed almost all hdware to answer xp's needs but still no cigars!

half my software is not wkg either, try as i might.

but the search tweaks do zero, only get a box pop-up that says search companion and does nothing.

if anyone can offer insights on above i've got all the updates already- thanks

 

Just a few days ago I had the same problem with search. The box opened, the dog smiled but blank box. I booted my install XP cd and started a reinstall and just before the last chance to abort, the system gives a suggestion that it can repair or install the system. I told it R repair and it reinstalled the operating system without causing any problem with the 100 or so programs that I had installed.

Rebooted and search was repaired. A program that I had installed had caused the glitch.

[EDIT] The updates from Microsoft were still ok also.
