I have been using Outlook Express for years and all of a sudden, powerpoint attachments cannot be opened. I have to save them to disk and then open. All other attachments open just fine......

Of course I have looked in my settings, and they are not set at high - other attachments open fine! At a lose

New to my system (which I don't think has anything to do with it - but you never know:}) is I networked an Xp and 98 computer through a router.

    Any input?

If you load the PowerPoint Viewer (as opposed to the normal app that allows editing) and make it the default for opening powerpoint documents your problem should go away.

My guess is that you have macro security enabled for PowerPoint (open the app then tools~options~security tab). It's a good idea I think to keep that particular piece of security pretty tight too. AV software can easily miss a destructive macro contained within a document.

You can get free viewers for all the office document types from the Microsoft online help site.

    You are right on Newt!
Up to this date, the files opened with no problem with the pp viewer.......Anyway, I went into control panel -> folder options -> file types and guess what, .pps was not in there anymore. Hummmm.

I saved the pps file to desktop, right clicked then opened file with
powerpoint viewer and ticked always use this program. Now I can open the files in OE. How pps got out of file types is a mystery!

    Thanx for the help
