Word 2000 on Win98 is now hanging up my machine when ever I try to open it. I have run AV, scan disk, SFC to no avail. The mesage I get is "Resources Extremely Low" but before I try to open I have 80% available. Can anyone tell me what I may look for before I have to reinstall MS Word 2000, it is part of MS Office 2000. I removed MS Word97. The Word section of MSWorks is OK. Thank you

Search out and destroy the file called Normal.dot

It's the defualt template that is prone to corruption. It'll get recreated next time you open Word.

Normal.dot delete/rename/recreate does seem to take care of the most common fussiness out of word but additionally....

Word does a lot of working in the *\windows\temp folder. You may want to have a look in there and make sure it is empty also.

I would also try using the "repair" function of office before resorting to a unistall/reinstall.

Thank you all. Renaming the normal.dot did the trick. Now in Windows\temp I have a bunch of files ending in .TMP can I get rid of them? Also in MSOffice\ recent I also have a long list of short cuts. Can I get rid of them since they seem to be programs I have used or pics.
