Basically 2 things are beginning to **** me off.

I just formatted my computer hoping it would solve it, but it didnt.

#1. Whenever im on the net, im going to websites, i would read the website as usually, then it would automatically go back to the previous page or keeps going to the very first site i went to.
#2. Whenever i open up an application, it would work fine, but if i leave it idle, it would fade out & usually you click it to be active
but it doesnt work for me. I have to ALT&Tab it to work.

Also, whenever im installing a software, it would do the same.

I dont know whats going on.

    Before i had Norton Systemworks 2003 & Norton's AV 2004.

    Now its basically Norton AV2004.

Other programs that i had was Adware, Spybot Search & Destroy & Window Washer 5.

Maybe this is a virus cus few days ago, i went to some sites & my AV2004 caught some trojans trying to get to my pc & i think i deleted it, not sure.
So maybe i have to rescan...?

Why are you associating Norton with an Internet Explorer problem? You need to run all your scans (offline, please!) and get some Interset Security in place. You may need to repair IE or do an sfc as well as security scans. Run your Norton AV scan again, too, and look in the logs, it will tell you where the problems are. I don't think the two problems (IE and NAV) are related, but rule that out first.

wow, you must be the one who loves Nav & IE....like those aol customer reps who b*tch at me if i talk bad about aol , even if it *****....

anyhow, i think i know what the problem is...

Since antivirus & anti spyware didnt pick it up, i do remember this..

My sister used 409 Detergent wipes on my keyboard & mouse, and i think the liquid got inside where it dried up & got sticky inside.

For your information, I posted this a few hours before I received your last post. I am currently a Norton user, so I understand that problems with Norton come from operators or bad (or late) installs. NAV is NOT internet security, and wasn't designed to be a firewall, the lack of which is how you get trojans and worms. You indicated you weren't running any firewall, and you weren't sure if you had a problem or deleted a problem or what. The scans Charles suggested were a good first move to diagnose the problem. You seemed to jump to the conclusion that Norton was interfering with IE, and that seemed odd, because you didn't mention any dialog boxes or error messages. I doubt cleaning the keyboard has anything to do with the problem you described, but at least you have a sister to clean up after you.

    r2corea,

If you are currently not running a Firewall, and it sounds like you're not, turn XP's on. It is an in-bound firewall only, but will protect you from the current worms/trojans.

Link on how to turn ICF on/off courtesy of Mark http://www.helpdesk.umd.edu/documents/4/4206/
