    Hello Forum,

I am using XP Pro. I use the Opera browser (7.23) and if this is the last thing I close before leaving my computer, my machine will not go into "sleep" mode. On the power management screen, I have it set to shut the monitor off after 5 minutes, and the hard disks off after 20 minutes. And it does do just that after everything I do, except closing Opera. If I close out my Opera, it just stays on. I have put a shortcut to power schemes on my desktop, and if I refresh the settings it will shut down. But what a pain. I've looked and asked on the Opera forums and followed their suggestions (updating DirectX) but so far no luck. I think I have the most updated drivers for everything. My machine will even go to sleep while I am online with Opera if I leave it alone for 5 minutes! Does anyone know what this is about? Thanks for any input.

I would uninstall Opera, reboot. Then, check your power management settings to make sure they have stayed as you prefer, and reboot again. Reinstall Opera, reboot, and see if your problem is still there.

Thanks Johanna for your reply. I may try that, although I am skittish about uninstalling/reinstalling, as in my experience it never goes as planned. And I don't know whether I'd have to re-register with Opera, since I paid for it to get the no-ad version, and also the super-excellent email support, which thus far has proven to be essentially worthless. Sorry--bitterness crept in. Thanks for your suggestion. I will poke around and try to learn what consequences may arise from reinstall.

If you have a paid for version you should have a "key" or registration password for the software- just have that handy when you reinstall.
