Not sure im in the right place for this one, but can anyone help me.
I want to put all our old vinyl records onto CD but i am having problems with connecting the stereo to the computer. As the turntable is a seperate item it is plugged into the line in so i think i need to go through the headphone connection but im unsure about what cable i will need.

I got a Y-Cable for S/PDIF Out/Microphone in with my comp not sure what this is for.
I have a cable which has two ends that look very similar, one end is straight like on headphones and the other is L shaped like you get in a personal Hi Hi.
The other cable i have is the one with two sockets red and white at one end and the other is straight like headphone jack. this i know will not fit due to the lack of line in, in the stereo.

    Any sugestions.

I have the turntable and tape deck connected to the stereo receiver. How I record from tape or records is I have a cable that has two RCA plugs on one end. That goes to the stereo receiver left and right out puts. The other has a plug that goes into the input on the sound card. I use MusicMatch Plus to record the music. Here is a page on Transferring LPs to CDR that you may find helpful.

You stereo receiver must have a Pre Amp for the record player. Line In is not it. If your receiver does not have a Phono selection, it will not help you.

Your stereo has to have a line OUT, like TAPE OUT. You then, link the Line Out/Tape Out to the LINE IN of the sound card. Cables availabe at Radio Shack.
