For all you music lovers out there.
I downloaded the new Winamp 5 this morning and I have to tell you IMHO it's the best yet my ears have listened to bar none.
That includes Media Player from Microsoft and a few others I have tried.
    It needs no enhancement whatsoever.
    Looks snazzy too.
I scanned for spyware with Ad-Aware (latest update) and no spyware :)
I suggest uninstalling any earlier versions of Winamp before installing version 5.

    Thanks, Daddad!
I've been using WinAmp for a long time as my default player, and each new version seems better than the last. Appreciate the heads up!

Let us know how you like it Lady.
Sure beats anything I have heard yet.

For a man who is in the autumn of his life, my ears are still acute and as good as a younger person.

    Johanna and Daddad--
I use audio/visual files very seldomly, so this may be a very stupid question, but for some time Winamp has been very complimentary about its version 2.91 and still offers it--almost implying the casual user will be happier with it than the newer versions.
Any reason for me to leave 2.91 behind finally?

Well Jim, I can't speak for Johanna but this new one blew my ears off with fidelity I had not heard from version 3.
The stereo separation is great in version 5 as opposed to the meager performance in version 3.
I think IMHO, they got it right this time around.
I have a handful of MP3's that I use as test vehicles for testing players and ALL of them came through like Gangbusters. :D
I am using a Turtle Beach sound card instead of a Creative Audigy.
So far, I have nothing but praise for that Turtle Beach sound card.
It shakes hands well with Winamp 5 :)

Downloaded and installed WinAmp 5 last night, and was as pleased as Daddad. Excellent sound quality, still easy to use. I chose the "classic" skin, after browsing through 48 pages of options. Good grief, don't these kids have anything better to do? I wanted to get the Pro, but it seems unavailable? The free version said it could rip and burn but a 1X and 2X speed. Huh? I don't need that! I'm willing to plunk down my $15 bucks. I've always liked WinAmp, and it doesn't seem to fight with XP, so I'm anxious to try the new features. I'll be waiting for the Pro!

I often use WinAmp with Shoutcast. A friend of mine broadcasts, and there are dozens of internet stations to choose from (I'm partial to Big Blue Radio- Audiocandy)

btw, I upgraded from 2.91, too. I forgot I had, and discarded 3.3. I don't remember why now, but it was a problem, so I went back to the earlier version. Go ahead with the upgrade, WJim, if you don't like it, dump it and go back!
    :D

I've just installed and re-installed it, and as smart as it is, my crossfader doesn't work.

    Anyone else got this problem?
