When scan all files it comes up and I chose to Fix and it is not successful, and then I choose quarantine, and it is not successful, and finally I chose delete, and again, it is not successful. What can I do to get rid of this Trojan? Thanks in advance for your suggestions

BB, thanks for your response. I have a question, what will that do if I destroy my restore points? If something happens to my cpu, then I can not restore, correct? Or can I just make a new restore point? Sorry, this may sound like a dumb question, I just want to know exactly what it is im doing and for what reason. Thanks again!

Also, one more thing, how do you destroy the restore points on my computer? I am using Windows XP, by the way. Thanks

    Hello Justin,

To "destroy" restore points - from system in the control panel > system restore tab > untick the enable SR box > reboot and then re-enable SR. The system will create an initial point on SR re-enable.

If you type System Restore into the Help and Support applet in the start menu, lot of info on System restore.

*If something happens to my cpu, then I can not restore, correct? Or can I just make a new restore point?*

No, can't restore until the system creates more points, or you can. No choice in the matter.

    Regards - Charles

Right click on the My Computer Icon

    Select Propreties/System Restore.

    Check turn System Restore off.

Do your thing about ( hopefully ) cleaning up the Virus.

When done go back to My Computer and turn System restore back on and it will make a new restore point.

You do not want any of the old restore points anyway. Especially if the do contain a Virus.

As to the the turning off and on of System Restore. That can be done at any time.

I myself do it everytime I make major changes and find that all is going to be OK.

BB, you mention for me to do my thing by hopefully deleting the virus. How will turning off System Restore do this, when I just recently go the virus? Should I run the Norton Antivirus scan and try to delete again? I don't understand how anything will be any different. Please elaborate a little if you have the time. Thanks!

If you have a virus there is a very good chance that recent restore points will have 'saved' the virus in the backup files. It is very important to delete those backups - system restore points - because if you restored to one of those points you would also restore the virus. Turning off system restore deletes all previous restore points.

Go to the Symantec page I posted and follow the instructions carefully to get rid of the virus. When you are sure that it is gone turn on System Restore - you can make a manual restore point at this stage if you wish - a good idea.

Pete, thanks for clearing that up. I have turned System Restore "OFF" and I ran virus scan again and it came back with the same virus. I attempted to fix, and it failed, I attempted to quarantine, that failed, and I attempted to delete and that also failed. What else can I do to get rid of this Virus?? Thanks in advance, you guys are all very helpful and informative!

The virus may have caused a "hiccup" in your Nortons. I would go here , do an online scan. Don't try to fix, quarantine, just delete what it finds. But you really need to read the link to Symantec that was posted.

I wonder if Norton mentioned where that trojan or virus is. Maybe go there and delete it manually?

From the article in PeteC's link, the first thing this critter tries to do is disable your onboard AV program. So you may have what appears to be a working Norton AV but one that is actually crippled and not able to deal with the infection.

How about doing all the things they recommend and then run a scan from an online scanner like RAV that will detect and clean.

If that clears things up, you might be well advised to uninstall and reinstall Norton.
