Is there a way (possibly with the registry, command line, or by adding a switch (i.e. "app path" /asdfg -x) after the shortcut path in Windows Explorer, to start a new Outlook Express message directly from the desktop? OE is not my default mail program, so that makes it more difficult; I have to first point the shortcut to msimn.exe. Also, is there any scripting tool for Windows (similar to the Mac Apple Script) to create a script or macro to automatically do this?

Right click on the desktop and choose new>shortcut. In the command line type the following.

    mailto:

When you run this shortcut a new mail message window will open. You can also make shortcuts for new mail messages that will include the address or addresses of person(s) you want to send it to. Simply add there address to the line.

    mailto:somebody@somewhere.com

If you do this, the new mail window will open with the address already put in the the "to" line.

Thanks; I'll give that a try. Outlook Express is not my default email program so I knew I needed more than just the mailto: link -- mailto: links open in Mozilla Thunderbird, which is what I use most of the time.
I don't suppose there's any way to bring up the "Select Stationery" box directly from Explorer. :)

The mailto: process doesn't work for this situation because it opens the email in my default email client, which is not OE.

Oops. I should have thought of that but it didn't occur to me at the time. I see you got the correct answer in the other thread though.
