It,s back again LOL, I thought it was fixed but that only lasted a bit. I do know that its the Adaptec 2906 SCSI card cause when I remove it everything is fine. I have all the latest drivers and microsoft updates. I have put the card in 4 different PCI slots and I even forced it to use a IRQ that was free. The only other think I can think of to try is to reformat and install the card right after I load Wondows. I know I should go to Xp but that is not possible at this time. If anyone has any ideas I'm willing to try about anything.
    Thanks,
    Digger

Digger, I think the zero responses to this post may be due to
the able and helpful folks here not knowing exactly what the
problem is, with error messages etc.
Maybe you have posted details before ?
If so give us the link to the post. It is a lot easier than each of us doing searches to find out what your problem is.
    regards

    Hi,
The problem all started when I installed an Adaptec 2906 SCSI card to run my Microtek E3 scanner. My system is Athlon 1700xp,Gigabyte 7VTXE+, 256Mb ddr Ram. The system was working fine for two years since I built it. After I installed the card the system does not want to shut off, It will go through the shutdown process but immediately starts up again I have to hit the power button on the power strip. I have tried just about everything all the patches and updates, I tried all the PCI slots, I even forced a IRQ that wasn't in use. Still the same problem. When I remove the SCSI card the system shutsdown properly. I can live with the problem but would like to get it fixed. The only other thing I can think of to try is that when I reformat my computer I will load the SCSI card right after I install Windows.
    Thanks, Digger

    Digger,

This is the voice of experience...You know, been there, done that, sorta thing.
Sometimes these SCSI Cards are real bears to get into their slot correctly, so try this.......shut the system down open the case, remove the SCSI Card, and look very carefully inside each of the PCI Card slots for possible BENT Pins.

You may need a good bright light to see inside these slots. I "m hoping I'm wrong, really I am, but several years ago a NASA Engineer and I experienced a similar problem and you can guess what we found. (Of course we were both retired so we had a good excuse....Old age....& it was Mfgr problem or so we thought. :D

A new Motherboard was our fix because the system was still under Warranty.

    Good Luck.

    Hi Digger,

I have exactly the same system. Would suggest you check all the "wake on" settings in the BIOS setup. I have a "wake on alarm" set for mine and if I start it before that time it will restart when I shutdown. It may be getting a signal from that card.

Ckeck any SCSI boot settings in the BIOS setup.

Other suggestion: try changing the SCSI ID number of the scanner if you can.

    Matt
