    I am using Win98SE with IE6 and OE6
I have set up many folders in my InBox.
Is there a convenien way to move these folders to my 3.5" floppy and subsequently add them back to my OE6? How would I go about doing this? I have about 15 folders with many messages in each folder.

Not that its any of my business, but I was wondering why you were trying to copy all of your folders and messages to a floppy disk?

In any event, Open Windows Explorer and then navigate to Windows/Application Data/Identities. Under this folder you should see a folder that is named using a long string of letters and numbers. Click on this folder and then navagate to Microsoft/Oulook Express. Right click on the Outlook Express folder, select Copy from the pop-up menu and copy the entire folder where you want.

Whether or not this will fit on a 3.5 floppy depends on the size of the combined number of messages you have in all of your folders. Remember that a 3.5 holds approximately 1.44 mb of data, so given the number of folders and files you have it might be easier to copy this folder to another location on your hard-drive or if you have a CD-RW to a CD disk.

When you're ready to copy these messages back into Outlook Express you will need to use the Import Messages function from within Outlook Express.

    Hope this helps. :)

    Open Outlook Express.

Click on the TOOLS Menu and select OPTIONS

Click the MAINTENANCE Tab and then click on Store Folder

You now see the location of your Mail Folder.
Highlite the Folder Location and press CTRL+C to copy the location.

Click Cancel and then Cancel again to close all boxes.

Click the Windows Start button and the click Run. In the open box press CTRL+V to paste the mail location, then click OK.

You should now have a window containing you e-mail database files.
From the EDIT Menu, click Select All. Edit Menu click COPY. Now close the window.

Right click your desktop, click NEW and then FOLDER.
Type a name for the folder and hit ENTER.

Double click the Folder you just created to open it. From the EDIT Menu select PASTE. Close the window.

You have now backed up your E-mail Messages

To Restore your Messages at a later date.
Open Outlook Express, File - Import - Messages . Select Microsoft Outlook Express 5. Click Next.
Then select "import from a OE5 Store Directory ". Click OK, then browse to the folder you created earlier, click next, the rest is up to you which folders you wish to import.

As a final check, I looked at the backed-up folders. They all end in .dbx and if I open one, it says I need WordPad to read and there's a bunch of gobbleygook.
I haven't tried the import suggestion yet. Will this elimiate .dbx and let me view and read files??

    princessmandi8;

.dbx files are associated with Outlook Express, as such they can only be opened through your email reader, which explains why all you saw was gobbleygook.

You'll need to import these files back into Outlook Express using the directions provided in the threads above and open them from within OE to see them properly.

    Hope this helps. :)
