    Hi,

I have an XP PC connected to ADSL,I also have a laptop from work runing NT 4.

I want to set up so the laptop can access the net via ICS.
However I have network problems, for some reason the XP pc can see the NT 4 laptop but not the other way around.I can only ping one way.

I've set the IP addresses to be on the same range, but no luck.

Another thing, the laptop normally gets its ip via dhcp at work, its a pain changind the ip each time when I come home.Is it possible to have two machines on the net usng different subnets, should they be able to ping each other?

    Thanks very much.

I think you might be happier with a router/switch (around $50 or so) rather than ICS. But either one will do DHCP for you so the laptop should get a set of values at home that match home without your having to set anything. Just make sure DHCP is set to assign the default gateway address as well as IP/subnet mask.

Different subnets on the same wire (or switch or hub) isn't going to be anything you would want to do. Most network things won't work at all that way.

Both PCs will need to have the exact logon name & password (gotta be a non-blank password too) the other machine is using added to the local users & groups, users section.
