I spoke too soon in my previous post, (Many clicks to change page), when I said I had reached a resolution.

When I open to the ISP, I connect at 52 to 54, but then it will timeout and not open my home page. Instead I get "Cannot find server ".

What cures it temporarily is to put in D drive the System Restoration Disc and then directed it to "install modem ". It opens a window that says it is "removing modem, please wait ". Then after a bit a dialouge box pops up headed, "DEVMGR ERROR ".

    Within that box it says
"Unable to get child device description: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. (0x000003E5) "
    with a OK button.

Pressing the OK button closes the window, but it pops right back up in about a second. At this point the only way to get the dialouge box to go away is to do a restart, at which point it loads the modem and thereafter the links in the browser are responsive like nothing is wrong. This lasts for varying lengths of time and eventually the links become unresponsive again

I really have no idea what that dialouge box is trying to tell me, or if the modem installation is completly and correctly finished. Or why it is necessary in the first place.

Can anyone offer a suggestion, cure, help or advice other than my inclination to throw it all out the window???

    Thank you

You have a problem with your registry. I would recommend using System Restore and use Last Good Configuration, but I think you do not have one.

    Dopey,

I did download and try that. Created some shortcut problems which are getting sorted out. I'd like to think it did more good than harm. Thanks

SR unavailable for this problem. Been going on too long, no good restore point. Any other suggestions??
