I'm not sure that I understand your question, but ...

To create a hyperlink in a message, highlight the text that you wish to make into a link and then click Insert - Hyperlink.

  3. to hide this advert.

Or if email is set up to send in html simply typing the full url will automatically make it an active link.

But surely this is not what your looking for??? You may have to explain this in a different way.

Recipe to type words such as Click here which will open a specified URL. How do I use the world icon create a Hyperlink to do this? Hopefully I am making myself perfectly clear? Appreciate the replies.

Drag your cursor across the words you want to use for link so they're highlighted and then click on the globe icon. Then, in the small window that opens type or paste in the address to the web page and click ok.

    Edit:
You can test the link by clicking the preview tab at the bottom. If the preview tab isn't there, click view and then click source edit.

Zander--More for my education than anything else.
You can see from my signature that I run Win98 and IE/OE6 SP1. When I highlight a word or two, whether in IE or OE and left click on the MS globe, nothing happens. When I highlight and right click on the globe, I get the same drop down menu as I would get clicking on any blank spot in the toolbar area. No small window or Preview tab, etc. Or is this only when at a person's own webpage?

I think we have a misunderstanding here. We're talking about making a link out of a word using Outlook Express. For this to work, you have to select rich text (html) in the format menu of the new message window (unless you use it by default). The globe we're talking about is located in the toolbar just above the message body. Looks like a globe with a chain link.
