I have netscape 7.1 and I accidentally deleted the old profile and all references to it are gone. I've found some cache files for netscape that are dated appx time I deleted the old profile and am hoping that is the information that is in those cache files is my old info. It is an xpi file though and I can't figure out how to open it.
My original question was how do I recover a deleted profile. Where would it have gone? I know it must be somewhere onthe drive

How did you delete the Profile, and why do you think that it is somewhere on the drive?
If you used the Delete keyboard key, it would be in the Recycle folder, and, if you dumped the trash, it is gone. If you used the proper way, i.e. from the profile manager|manage profiles|delete you would be given the chance to keep the files or not. The first choice would allow you to restore the profile, but not the second one one.
    So, it depends.

I used the profile manager but it didn't offer to leave or delete the files. It just disappeared when I deleted it and so did the files. There was no option to recover. I'm running with XP op system if that matters.

    Thanks for your response,

    Margie,

Unless you manually deleted the Profiles Folder in Windows Explorer, then your Profile should still exist. Look here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt
NOTE: These files are hidden by default.
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders

Cache files wouldn not contain Profile data, and should be deleted on a regular basis.

Post back and let us know if your Profile folder was intact.

    Same for Windows 98?

    Ramona --

Something similar had happened to me, using Windows 98 (as per a previous post). I don't see a "Documents and Settings" folder, so I suspect that is for Windows XP. Is there someplace else that a profile is stored in Windows 98 other than the Windows\Application Data\Mozilla path (in the event of an undesired deletion via Profiles Manager)?

    PLS

    PLS,

Only if you manually changed the Profile location. It is by default placed in the:
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla folder.
