Is it normal to have more than 0 Folders in my 'dowload program files'?
I read somewhere that it is supposed to be 0 Folders.
I suspect this is corrupting the Folder & not allowing Windows Update to work.
Can I just delete the actual folder? Will it regenerate when I try to download?
    Please advise.
    I am running W2K.
    Thank you.

I have been using Win2k for 3 years now, but I haven't ever seen that folder in regards to Windows Update. Windows update uses the temp directory or c:\windows update setup files directory.
What is happening when you access Windows update?

    Back yo Bursley

Thanks for your interest. When I go to Windows Update/product catalog I get the 'cannot display page'. I went thru all MS suggested solutions.
I read in an old newsgroup (W98) that a corrupted 'download program files' (actually the activex cache) may cause this problem. The symptoms mentioned (for a corrupted 'download program files directory) were:
    1. Damaged files.
    2. More than 0 Folders (in W explorer/properties/contents) in 'download program files' directory.
I have both symptoms. I am looking for a safe solution.
    Thanks again.
BTW Windows Update uses activex controls which are located in the 'download program files'.

WHy not copy the contents of the directory to another place on your HDD. Delete the contents and see what happens.

Not possible with this type of folder. It is really an activex cache diguised as a folder.

Create another local administrator user. Login as that user account and run Windows update.
Also check your browser security settings to make sure microsoft.com is allowed to run active x controls. To ensure this you can place microsoft.com in the trusted sites zone.

The trusted sites I did long ago. However your first idea sounds interesting. Unfortunately I haven't the foggiest idea how to create a new user with administrative rights. Could you please advise or point me to the information?
    Thanks.
