    I am unable to make the "OK" button work on the (Junk Mail Controls screen) after setting the options I want. My only way to get out of that screen is to close the screen. That does not save the options. The option Im trying to set is the "Automatically delete junk messages after X days. "
    Thanks
    Denny

    Which version of Netscape or Mozilla or Thunderbird do you use?

    Hello drhans2,
    You are using Netscape 7.1

    I can't reproduce the problem you described. When you handle other settings (from preference, does the OK buttom working?)
    I can only suggest you re-install Netscape 7.1 over the current installation. You don't need to uninstall it.

    Hello Antony,

    Everything works OK when changing setting from (preferences)..... It's from (Tools) than (Junk Mail Controls) in the Email Program that I cannot set the options I want. I can press & depress the "OK" button, however the screen will not accept the new setting. The setting I'm trying to chance is: (Automatically delete junk messages older than 14 days from this folder). I am able to check the box to select the option and change the amount of days but it won't accept the option. Only way out of that option screen is "cancel" or the upper right-hand corner X. When I bring up the screen again the box is unchecked and days are gray. I can also minimize the screen. Just can't do anything with the "OK" button.
    If this reply to you draws a blank I guess I'll try to re-install Netscape 7.
    Thanks
    Denny

    Hi Denny,

    Before reinstalling, as you obviously have a corrupt file somewhere, delete these two files, which are located in your salted folder:
    localstore.rdf
    XUL.mfl

    Your salted folder is located here:
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt

    This may help...

    One question: are you using a Theme other than Modern?

    Hi Denny,

    Yes, go ahead and revert to the Modern Theme. It can't hurt, and might help, but doubtful. You have to restart Netscape in order for the change to be effective.

    I take it that deleting the two files listed did nothing? If that's the case, then reinstall Netscape...

    Please post back with the results, and thanks!

    I have not deleted the two files yet. I figured I wait until you answered my question about changing themes. Do you want me to try changing themes before deleteing the two files?

    Denny,

    Ensure that Netscape and Quick Launch are closed. Then:

    Delete the files, one at a time.
    localstore.rdf
    then
    XUL.mfl

    Restart Netscape each time, to see if the problem is resolved. Otherwise, you won't know which, or if these files were the problem.

    If no joy, then change Themes.
    Still no joy, reinstall Netscape.
    It would be my recommendation to first uninstall Netscape via Windows Add/Remove panel, rather than install on top of the existing version. You won't lose any Profile information.

    Back up your Plugins folder, in your
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape folder before uninstalling.

    After you have uninstalled via the Add/Remove applet, reboot your PC. This will ensure that your system is updated, before reinstalling Netscape.

    Let us know if you have further questions, and if this corrects your issues.

    Ramona :D

    Hi Ramona,
    I tried all of what you suggested. It didn't mater what step I was doing, the "OK" button problem didn't change. Even installed Netscape to a different folder name. The "OK" button still depresses when clicked but the changes I've chosen are not set. Also when I deleted the file "localstore.rdf" my folder names in my mail program half disappeared and what remained made no sense. I had to restore the file to make my mail useable. I am left with the satisfaction of giving it my best shot. I wonder if the new version has some issues with Win98 se? Thanks for your help. This is a minor glitch since I can manually delete the junk mail.

    drhans2,

    Spam controls seem to be account specific. and generally set in "mailnews.js ":

    pref( "mail.server.default.purgeSpam ",false);
    pref( "mail.server.default.purgeSpamInterval ",3); // 14 days
    pref( "mail.server.default.spamLoggingEnabled ",false);
    pref( "mail.server.default.manualMark ",false);
    pref( "mail.server.default.manualMarkMode ",0); // 0 == "move to junk folder ", 1 == "delete "

    I must admit I do not understand ALL of the entry.

    We are interested in the:

    mail.server.server(n).purgeSpamInterval

    Look in your "prefs.js" file for this entry.

    If the entry is not there, it means that it is set to default.

    Next, type "about:config" in the browser location bar, browse down to:

    mail.server.server1.purgeSpamInterval ( this would be for account 1.)

    right click on entry and select modify. change interval to the number you want. Close ALL instances of NS, including quick launch.

    Open NS mail, tools and check setting.

    You should also now have an entry in prefs.js" file:
    user_pref( "mail.server.server1.purgeSpamInterval ", 4); (4=number you set)

    Please let us know if this helps.

    Do idea why it will not change thru UI---

    It works as it should for me on 7.1 - win98se

    regards:

    Hi captjlddavis,
    Found the entry and it appears that it's allready there. I've copied it below.

    / for spam
    pref( "mail.server.default.spamLevel ",100); // 0 off, 100 on. not doing bool since we might have real levels one day.
    pref( "mail.server.default.moveOnSpam ",false);
    pref( "mail.server.default.moveTargetMode ",0); // 0 == "Junk" on server, 1 == specific folder
    pref( "mail.server.default.spamActionTargetAccount "," ");
    pref( "mail.server.default.spamActionTargetFolder "," ");
    pref( "mail.server.default.useWhiteList ",true);
    pref( "mail.server.default.whiteListAbURI ", "moz-abmdbdirectory://abook.mab "); // the Personal addressbook.
    pref( "mail.server.default.purgeSpam ",false);
    pref( "mail.server.default.purgeSpamInterval ",14); // 14 days
    pref( "mail.server.default.spamLoggingEnabled ",false);
    pref( "mail.server.default.manualMark ",false);
    pref( "mail.server.default.manualMarkMode ",0); // 0 == "move to junk folder ", 1 == "delete "

    Is there anything that I should change?
    thanks
    denny

    dr...

    No don't change anything just yet....it looks like it is as it should be.

    Please check your prefs.js file....(BACK IT UP FIRST)

    Back-up to "prefs.1217" <todays date>

    Look for entry refereing to "purgeSpamInterval ",
    Is it there ?
    Also please browse down "about:config" to:
    mail.server.server1.purgeSpamInterval
    What does it say ?

    I can't replicate the problem, so I am trying to eliminate things one at a time.

    regards;

    The entry "purgeSpamInterval" is not there under my "prefs.js ". Above my server entry's (useing about config" is the (default) server has the entry and it has the line (pref( "mail.server.default.purgeSpamInterval ",14); // 14 days).
    Do I need to copy and paste that references from the "default" to my area of the script?

    Denny,

    The pathe sounds correct for win98se.

    You stated that in "about :config" you have an entry
    "
    You should not have any entry that looks like this in "about :config" I am at somewhat of a loss as to where this entry comes from...... and how in the hec to get rid of it.........

    The only way that I can see for this entry to be there is if you have set it through editing the prefs.js file. But you say that there is no such entry in the prefs.js file so I am at loss.......

    The correct entry should be:
    Name = mail.server.server1.purgeSpamInterval
    type = integer
    value = (whatever you want) or nothing

    It looks like a NEW profile may be the best solution.......Not being able to see the actual entries make it very hard to trouble shoot the problem.

    Did you make any changes to the "mailnews.js" file ?

    If so what ?

    If the "mailnews.js" file is messed up, then a new profile will not solve anything. Based on your clip of "mailnews.js" everything looks OK.

    Hang in there, and if anyone else has an idea, feel free to jump on in.

    regards:

    I have not edited any file manually. I have set options by using normal methods provided by Netscape. I think as a last resort (when time permits) that I will export all my mail and bookmarks to another Browser & Email Program and than un-install Netscape. Than I also will remove all references of Netscape from my computers Registry. Hopefully that will clean up any widgets that might hose up the works when I try to install Netscape again from scratch. Thanks for all your help in this issue. It's not a problem to me as I can delete the junk mail manually.... Much Thanks to all that tried to overcome this button problem...
