XP home. when you go to User Accounts and you click "Create a Password" you have an option after you make the password to make all your files private. I hit that

Did you try creating another password and seeing if that "make files private" option came back again?

yeah, i tried that too. i cant get it to go away though. i went to my computer, right clicked on my name and went to properties, went to the sharing tab, and the box that is checked is shadowed out so i cant un-click it so my files will be shared again

I have to confess to never having been near XP-home and this particular section, security, is an area where it behaves very differently than XP-pro. So - I can't poke around and try things to see what will work.

To get direct access to security settings in XP-home, you will need to be booted to safe mode. Once there, there should be a security tab added to the usual ones you see when doing file/folder properties.

You should see a way there to revert things back to the way you want them.
