I know there are many of you out there who own older slot-1 motherboards (mobo) and would like to upgrade them to a faster CPU.

There is a way one can do that by using a Slot-T converter board:

    http://www.upgradeware.com/english/product/slott/slott.htm

You can scan this list of compatible mobo's to see if your mobo is included:

    http://www.upgradeware.com/english/product/slott/compatibility.htm

Caution is needed here if your slot-1 mobo doesn't appear in the list, if it doesn't, this upgrade method should NOT be undertaken.

If your mobo qualifies (on the list) you can install an Intel Celeron (Tualatin) 1.3 GHz 100MHz FSB, 256K Cache CPU in the Slot-T converter.

    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...112-160&catalog=343&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=1

Here is a list of vendors that can supply the Slot-T converter board worldwide.

I did this to an older Asus P3V4X mobo that had a Celeron 300A slot-1 overclocked to 450 MHz.

Give it a try, maybe that "ole clunker" is not quite dead yet :D

Sounds interesting but I don't know what a 'slot-1' motherboard is. I have an old PackerdBell in the garage and just wonder it can be boosted.

    Sorry for my not knowing.

Tremendous post there Daddad. Can't thank you enough. Didn't know a thing about this.

Of even more interest to me is the device they have (look at the other links) for socket A boards. I've got a couple of older Abit KT7a MB's that I love, but they are of limited commercial value due to processor limitations (1400 @133). They aren't supposed to run Athlon XP's however I've got one running a AGOGA core Palamino 1900 which OC's quite nicely. It took me forever to set the memory timings and voltages but, once done - its been a flawless performer. Now, if I read this correctly, for less than $40 one can get a little device that saves hours of setup time and chip modding and wind up with something like 2900+ performance. hehehe ...... definately worth checking out. Even better - I've still got a few sticks of Cas2 PC150.

Thanks for the heads up - its really appreciated.

    ;)

Thanks guys but I can't take any credit for that approach.
I first saw mention of the Slot-T on Tom's Hardware site about a year or so ago.
Yes, thay do have an interesting array of converter boards.
They have their own forum there too to browse through.
It sure made my old Asus mobo perk up and fly high :D
My little Grandaughter has become the proud owner of that machine to play her games and educational programs on :)

I'm running a 1.3GHz on a slot-T on what was a GATEWAY PROFESSIONAL pIII-450. This has been running for almost 1 yr.

I have installed 7 of these in several systems, they just Rock!

I want to get another for my Asus P2B-S !
