I have downloaded an additional ISP. Now I have two servers. I am considering switching. I don't want to change my present address until I'm sure I'm going to stay with the new server.

Can someone please explain how to set up another mail account with the new server? I would like to use both servers for email.
    Step by step Please.

    I use Outlook Express.
    Thank you

    .

    LadyLuck,

Very straightforward - in theory at least :) ....

Outlook Express > Tools > Accounts > Add button, select Mail and follow the Wizard through.

For details of the Mail servers log onto your ISP - Support or whatever and they should post details of these under setting up an account manually.

    Pete, thank you

    I did all that.

After I fill in all the info about the new server how can I also use them as an email program?

How do I go about this?.

This may be a simple thing to some but not for me. Someone else has always set up everything on my computer.

When you have completed/finished the Wizard the new account will show in the Internet Accounts dialogue box with 'Any Available' under the Connection column.

Highlight the account > Properties > Connection - check 'Always connect to this account using' and select your new ISP from the drop down list > Apply.

Decide which of your (2) accounts you want to be the default - highlight it and click 'Set as Default'

When you Send/Receive in OE the default account will 'fire up' and check for messages on that account. OE will then ask if it should try to connect to the other account using the connection to the ISP associated with this account or to hang up and dial your other ISP. The choice is yours. Sometimes one ISP can get mail from another ISP.

Is this what you wanted? Post back if you want further guidance.

    Pete, thanks for your response.

    You said:

OE will then ask if it should try to connect to the other account using the connection to the ISP associated with this account or to hang up and dial your other ISP.

I did not see anything like that.

    So
    Do I understand this correctly

I have to disconnect, log on to the other ISP, change the default then I will be able to use this server for my email.

    Sorry - clearly a little 'rusty' on this - it's been a while ......

Tools > Options > Connections - make sure 'Ask before switching dial up connections' is checked,

    and

Tools > Accounts > Properties (of each mail account) - General tab and check ' Include this account ..........'.

    Hope this sorts it out!

Pete, sorry to be such a pest about this.

I just want to absolutely sure, as I have messed up so much with this.

After I follow all the instructions

Do I have to disconnect, log on to the other ISP, change the default then I will be able to use this server for my email?.

In order to use your new ISP as your default mailer it must be set as the default.

When you write a new email your email address for the new ISP will be used as the default 'from'.

When you log on for your email the default ISP will be connected, in this case your new ISP. Your new email address will first be checked for mail - you should then get a dialogue box pop up asking if you want the current ISP to try and connect with your other ISP - or - to hang up and dial the other ISP. Take the first option - and if no success then respond with 'hang up .....'

I am writing this from memory - I have two email accounts, but they are with the same ISP, but I set up two ISP's on a friend's m/c - we are both on dial up
At first this puzzled me, but thinking about it I get the impression you are on Broadband? - in which case the answer, I guess, is YES - and I have no idea if what I have said above is relevant or not. I have no experience of broadband.

Incidentally - for dial up at least - you should go to Tools > Internet Options (in IE) > Connection and set your new ISP as the default connection there.

    HTH

    Pete, Thanks again.

I am on dial up so I will follow those instructions.

The main thing that causes you to need to do most of the settings things Pete mentions is for sending so your email program 'knows' which account you usually want to use to send a new email.

Receiving - no problem having several accounts (same ISP or different ones) and letting the system check each of them for you.

With OE (at least from 5.5 on and probably earlier) when you open a new email to send, you will have your default account shown in the From line but there is a drop down so you can change the account you send the post from.

I did see that when I send a new message the default account is shown in the From line. You said there was a drop down to change the account you send the post from.

    Where is this drop down?

The drop down list to change the account you send the message from is the small down arrow button at the end of the 'From' box in the New Message Window. Hit the button and both your email addresses are shown - highlight the one you want to send the message from.

Just one word of caution/info - if you want to 'Reply' to a message, i.e. hit the Reply button on the toolbar, you must do this using the ISP for your email address to which the message was sent. Again, when you connect, there is a dropdown box for 'Connect to' in the Dial up Connection dialogue box. Your default ISP will be shown by default.

Hope you have both accounts up and running now.
