    Hi,
We have a number of Windows Update File Uninstallers as follows:

    $NtUninstallKB821557$
    $NtUninstallQ328940$

    etc.

then we have a folder at the end of this list titled:

    $xpsp1hfm$

When I hold my mouse pointer over the last folder, it lists the folders above it.

Does this last folder contain all of the folders above it?

If so, can the folders above it be deleted and just save the last folder for back up?

    Thanks for any reply.

JMO, but they are best left alone. They don't use much space, and they don't bother anything. Start messing with them, and you can't be certain what will happen next! :D

Maybe I am one of the lucky ones, but only once since Windows 3.1 have I had the slightest problem with any Windows updates.

After a month or so of using my system after an update, I routinely delete all these $Uninstall... entries and remove them from Add/Remove with a registry program.

    Hi Johanna & Abraxas,
    Thanks for the replies.
I seem to recall that I read somewhere that if you do not need to uninstall the updates, you do not need the uninstall files.

Also if you think you may need these files someday, you can burn them to a CD before deleting them.

    I still have a question.

    $xpsp1hfm$

When I hold my mouse pointer over the last folder (above), it lists the folders above it.

Does this last folder contain all of the folders above it?

    Thanks.

    Hi jslow,

I answered this a number times and am of the opinion that they can be deleted. I'm not going to uninstall SP1 after a year. I also think they should be burned out for the sake of insurance.

$xpsp1hfm$ - I don't have that file. At a quess, this may be from that "roll-up" patch that MS issued in Oct? incorporating all their previous security patches.

If I did have have it, I would also take it off after 2-3 months.

    Regards - Charles
