I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO UPGRADE FROM ME TO XP PRO.
WHEN THE COMPUTER RESTARTS THE FIRST TIME AND LOADS, I GET A BLUE SCREEN THAT SAYS " DRIVE C IS CORRUPTED AND NOT REPAIRABLE XP PRO WILL NOT BE INSTALLED. "
I CAN NOT GET XP PRO TO UPGRADE.

ME IS RUNNING GOOD AND I CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY HARD DRIVE. MY HARD DRIVE IS NOT CORRUPTED.

MY HARD DRIVE IS A QUANTUM FIREBALL LCT15.

I HAVE EZ BIOS INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER.

HOW DO I UPGRADE FROM ME TO XP PRO ?

Hi Frank - and Welcome to the Board :)

I seriously suggest that you do not attempt to upgrade Win Me to XP - it is fraught with problems as you have already discovered.

The best solution is to do a clean install - you will need your Win Me install CD as 'evidence' if your XP CD is an upgrade.

Back up all your important data - a clean install will format your drive and it is a good idea to download XP drivers for your video card, sound card, etc and any other peripherals you have and burn to CD before installing XP. XP has a lot of drivers on board, but not necessarily all or the latest one's. This stage is not essential if you do not have a CD burner, but you will need to update your drivers at some stage.

For a step-by-step illustrated guide to a clean install see here

BTW Please do not use capitals - considered to be 'shouting' on the Board and poor etiquette - also difficult to read

    From a PM

    PETE,
thank you for your reply to my thread: ( Me To Xp Pro / Corrupted Drive. )

when i do a clean install, should i use ntfs or fat32. my hard drive is 30gb. microsoft advises to use fat32 for hard drives under 32gb.
whether ntfs or fat32, how do i keep or reinstall all of my current files either during or after the clean install. currently it is fat32.

    thank you Pete

Follow Zander's link for starters - he has a good point which I overlooked.

If you do make a clean install you must copy your data to floppy (probably impracticable) or burn to CD and then copy it back to your new install of XP. All programs will have to be reloaded - be sure you have the install disks before you commit to a format!

Stay with FAT 32 for your drive.

If you do not have a CD burner the only option would appear to be an upgrade over Me - follow Zander's link to the MS Knowledge Base and sort out your drive overlay first.

Good luck - hope you don't need it!

Also read: Windows XP, Installing and Setup

If you do a clean install: DUMP FAT32!

Microsoft does not suggest FAT32 on < 32GB drives.

    This is what MS says:

For NTFS read: Windows XP File System: NTFS
