I recently had a couple of virus's on my laptop that caused it to crash and need a new harddrive. Luckily when my ex g/f bought the laptop, I told her to buy the extended warranty so the harddrive is covered.

However the technician that is repairing my laptop told me that I could be getting the virus from a Macintosh on my network. I have two PC's and an eMac running on my network. I had previously connected the network via a router but it broke and now I am using a hub that I had lying around.

Is it true that the Mac could be sending virus's back to my PC's even though the Mac doesn't recognize them?

It is possible for the PCs to be getting problems from the Mac but only in a very limited way. I'm not aware of any virus that can infect both types of computer.

If the Mac receives an email that carries an PC-specific infection and passes that email along, and unprotected PC could be infected.

As to a virus damaging a hard drive (the physical drive), that's a new one on me. Wouldn't think it was possible. Destroy files, yes. Render the drive unbootable, yes. Physically damage it so it needed replacing, not likely.

So what your saying is the only way the mac could pass along the virus is by forwarding the email? That is what I thought as well. If a virus is made for a pc, then gives it instructions to spread then, it would have to be a mac virus for it to spread to the pc otherwise the mac would not understand the pc virus and do nothing right?
