Hi, I have a problem with my PC, I had recently had a virus so I decided to format the harddrive and re-install windows XP pro.

It all went good i started with the boot up disks and partitioned my harddrive and format. It then required the windows XP cd which i put in and it started to install files, it then reboot it self and was goiong to continue with setup. it went to the blue said" starting setup" and then it came up with message: system fatal error" system has shut down.

I do not know what to do about it, some one said that it could be my bios settings but i checked them over..

Any ideas of what the problem might be??

    Thank you for your time

    Try this.

If your MBD has a clear CMOS jumper go through the proper proceedure to Clear NVram.

If no jumper, go into BIOS and "Load Defaults" or what ever is the proper option for your system.

Whenever I have had a "Fatal System Error" I have been unable to get to the BIOS. (I have a floppy boot disk with ME and NFDisk on it for these situations!) I think I would do as Progab suggested and clear CMOS, then reinstall XP again. Post back and let us know if it works.
