My email server has been move to an organization that has implemented it as an IMAP server. That's all well & good, as I can go to the designated web site & view the mail & process it there, but I want (&Need) to have the mail processed on IE6.0

I have the account set up in IE6.0 as an IMAp server account with the incoming & outgoing servers named correctly. When I try to access the mail from IE6 I get nothing on the 'send/receive'. When I try tools/imapservers I get the show/hide imap folders box that indicates that the folders are dowloading but thent he error box says "the server has rejected your lgin' verify user name & pswd (which are corretc). The detailed msg is Login failed Config Acct mail.sunny.net.
    server mail.sunny.net
    user name XXXXXXXXXX (correct)
    portr 143
    secure SSL: 0
    code 800cccd1

    Any help would be appreciated.

I have tried to define the account in IE6 as a POP3 server, but get no email taht way.

I'm guessin you mean OE6. I would delete the account. Close OE, run repair via the control panel, highlight IE, chose remove, and the option should come up for repair. Reboot, open OE, and set the account back up..

The only Outlook Express listed in the Ctrl pgms add remove pgs is OE Q330994 Update. When I click on that I only get the option to uninstall Q330994 & restore the prior configuration. How do I get to repair outlook?

There isn't a seperate option to repair OE. It happens as part of an IE repair.

    What OS do you run?

Newt. Thanks Running W2KPro with SP4 installed & all updates. The add/remove programs shows only an entry for IE Q330994 Update & not 'just' IE. So I am at the same point. No 'repair' option when I click on the 'change'remove' button. Just the option to uninstall Q330994 & return to the prior config.

    Help would be appreciated.

See if you can find it in start, programs, accessories, system tools, system info. Then click on tools. See if IE repair tool is there.

Have you tried calling your ISP for a specific fix? Since they just changed over, you are probably not the only one with this problem.

It is possible to repair or do a clean reinstall of IE6 on XP. Not easy but possible.

    Q318378 gives details.

If you use option #1 you may need to reapply security updates, patches, etc. It's the easiest to do initially but lots of aftercare.

Option #2 would be my pick. The only exception would be to get a fresh copy of IE6 SP1 (link in the article to get it and it is a full version with SP1 already applied) BEFORE you remove your current version. Otherwise, I'd guess that if you opted to remove both IE & OE, it might be a little tough to get back on the internet to get a fresh copy.

Note that option #2 does not remove the application (at least I don't think it does) but does tell XP it is gone so the reinstall will work properly.

I did remove the IMAP account , close OE6, reboot & redefine the account & stil the same message on WIN2KPro.

Start/Ctrl Panel/Add-remove pgms/IE6 gives me only an entry for IE Q824145...no entry for just IE6...so I'm unsure whether I want to remove that particular upgrade to IE6. Otherwise where do I look for the repair capability for IE6?

At this point, I have to lean towards Johanna's responce. Have you contacted your ISP?

I will contact the ISP, but I'm still concerned about there being no place to 'repair' ie6. Can someone please guide me there.

If you look on the Microsoft sitelink that Newt posted, they give detailed instructions for repairing IE. I followed them EXACTLY and wound up with a Fatal System Error and had to reinstall XP. You can try it, if you want to, but be warned- it may or may not work. I think a phone call to your ISP should be next, but that's just my opinion.

I had similar problem when I failed to check[enable] the box that says "my server requires authentication" and made sure that the top one which says "Log on using Secure password" was unchecked.

    Perhaps a look-see via:
    OE toolbar>
    "Tools "
    "accounts "
    "mail" tab
    "highlight account of focus "
    click "properties" button
    "servers" tab
the two enable/disable boxes and lines are on the bottom.

Yours may be the opposite or some magic combo of either or both but perhaps an experimental setting would help.
