    Hi all,
Im back. Well I bought a new CD burner and installed figuring that maybe my pc would read a cd finally. Nope. Still the same problem. If I put a cd in drive I here it spin just slightly and then nothing happens. I go to the cd icon in "my computer" and it says install a disk. Obviously its not reading it. Its been like this for a long time to be honest and I have tried most everything. A couple of years ago I put XP pro on top of win 98 but for the life of me I cant remember if it did it before that.
Anyway as I mentioned in the last post. If I shut the pc down with the disc in drive once it boots up it will then be able to read it. Very strange.
If anyone has any ideas on this again please forward them. I have been seriously thinking of going back to win 98 since my pc is only 450mhz 192mg anyhow. How do you feel about that too?

Have you been to the Hardware tab in System of Control Panel and tried the troubleshooter or looked at your drivers in Device Mgr (right click and choose "properties" for the cd drive? Since it knows the cd is there at boot, something sounds like it's mucked up in device manager or hardware recognition.

Let us know what you've tried already.

    Hi Johanna,
Yes, I have looked into trouble shooter and device manager and no luck. It shows all is ok. I have even re-configured the autoplay and still no good. For the life of me I cant remember if it did this before I installed XP pro? But its been a long time. I just never cared much until I bought the burner. Which is a clue that it did the same thing with the old CD drive. Its a good one for sure!!
