I recently reinstalled NIS2003 (not sure this is even related) but I cannot get a complete security scan at Symantec's site and cannot get an online virus scan there at all. It keeps telling me that I need IE 5.00 or better and that my browser has active x and scripts disabled.

I have IE 5.5 sp2, symantec in trusted zone, settings on default.
I have no trouble running an online virus scan at Housecall.
I wrote to Symantec re this problem and they said they do not support the free scan. I have run IE repair and even done a browser check on line and can find nothing. I am beginning to believe they are in cohoots with Microsoft to get me to upgrade to IE6.00.

Any help in this will be appreciated or do you think I should bite the nail and install IE6.00?

    Are they?

You might try disabling Script Blocking in NAV 2003 temporarily.

I am of the feeling that it would be a good idea to do that anyway. MANY sites are now requiring IE6 in order to work properly.

I had to break down and upgrade one of my machines to IE6.

But make sure you get IE6 with SP1.

And IE6 SP1 works just fine in Win98SE. ( or at least it does for me. )

Thanks Pete. but that didn't work either. This is the exact message I get after running the security scan.

"The following checks did not run due to an error on the server. Please try again later.

    Hacker Exposure Check
    Windows Vulnerability Check
    Trojan Horse Check
Please note that the following checks were not able to complete because they require Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher with ActiveX and Scripting enabled:

    Antivirus Product Check
    Virus Protection Update Check
Why these checks did not complete for you:
Scripting is disabled in your browser settings.

To run these checks modify your browser's settings to comply with the site requirements, then click here to run the Security Scan again "

I have run these scans numerous times with no problems in the past and I know I did one after July 1. They have changed the looks of the site since then but don't think that is the problem.
I don't feel vulnerable as everything else is working fine, but I hate it when something doesn't work right and I can't figure out why.

    OK.

I just tried doing a Virus check from Symantec.

I got the same messages about needing IE5 etc. I have XP Pro and IE6 xpsp2.

But I do not believe that is the real problem ( at least for me ) I DO NOT have Norton Anti Virus installed which it needs. It even asked if I wanted to download the AV deffinitions.

Does NIS 2003 contain the NAV ?

    NIS 2004 I believe does,

I would dis-regard Norton On-Line AV checking and use the others which I believe you said work OK.

    The Port checked worked OK.

Thanks Billy Bob, I thought I was loosing it (my Mind). Since I am on a slow dial up I ordered IE6sp1 on a CD so will probably go ahead and update soon. Am also considering updating to XP if it will work on my Gateway OEM system.

To answer you question, yes Nav is included in NIS2003. I'll just forget about their scan. :p

Thanks to both for you replies. Merry Christmas!

Forgot to mention I also have a little Book PC with W98SE and IE5.01sp1 and NIS 2003 (new purchase) and it works fine.
