    Please help

Everytime I send a pic as an attachment with OE it shows the pic as an attachment AND puts the picture in the preview pane. How do I send a pic and have it show up ONLY as an attachment that a user can open and NOT show up in the preview pane or message portion of the email?

Hi - Welcome to the Board :)

What you see is the default behaviour of OE - the Preview pane does just that - previews the message and any attachment that OE can read, i.e. it will not preview a Word doc.

Only solution, AFAIK is to turn off the Preview pane - at both ends.

Try Inside Outlook Express for a possible answer, but I doubt it.

If you find a solution please post it here.

In OE, go to Tools>Options>Send tab>HTML Settings button and uncheck "Send pictures with messages." MS hid that one well.

You could zip the pic before emailing it. This would mean an extra step or two for both sender and reciever but would accomplish what you want.

Would that not prevent the pictures being sent at all?

Yes! Click on the question mark on the upper right hand side of the window and then click on the option for an explanation.

The problem with the preview pane, like everyone else stated, is on their end, not yours. Haven't tried this but, tell them to go to tools, options, read tab, then uncheck "auto download in preview pane ".

McMahonm01--Whether you use the preview pane or not, default behavior of OE is to open any image attachment with the file types .jpg, .gif or .bmp in the email message window. Ways to stop that have been mentioned by Zander and Miz.
Strangely although the fix suggested by Miz is in the Send tab of OE's Tools|Options, it seems to work for nixing the automatic opening of the image when receiving the message with attachment as well.

Thanks all for your responses. I tried all suggestions and the only way that seems to work is to Zip the pictures.
