    Hi all

I cant believe I'm going to say this,, If prefer SpyBot S&D over Adaware.any/every day.

we should stay away from recommending it to new posters
I think it will be corrected with the next updates.
some new spyware/nasties being fixed are cousing problems for a few people
    O10 - Broken Internet access
some cant even connect to the Internet
same story if you remember ,Adaware was also doing this for awhile, about a year ago.

Lonny Jones--That reference to O10 looks like a HiJackThis reference, not AdAware. (I do not use SpybotS&D so do not know know what their log looks like.) So not sure how your post relates to comparing AA to SS&D.
Anyway, HJT has this to say about O10
    "O10 - Winsock hijackers

    What it looks like:
    O10 - Hijacked Internet access by New.Net
O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'c:\progra~1\common~2\toolbar\cnmib.dll' missing
    O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\program files\newton knows\vmain.dll
    What to do:
It's best to fix these using LSPFix from Cexx.org, or Spybot S&D from Kolla.de. "
EDIT--Just came across this reference to a problem with SpybotS&D that sounds similar to what you are talking about
    http://www.lurkhere.com/forum/DCForumID6/593.html
Still not clear why you feel SS&D better than AA.

    Hi
    yes its a hijackthis reference
I'm not really up up on the 010 item, but yes hijackthis can fix some of them and lsp fix..spybot & Adaware
I see they are recommending not to fix with hijackthis rather we should use lsp fix or both first with hijackthis.

"Still not clear why you feel SS&D better than AA. "
I don't really except when Adaware users say people don't need both.. and I hear if this is mentioned in there forum it will be erased, unless there negative remarks against SpyBot.

They wouldn't allow my signature there but would at net integration.

Lets not start a which is better debate :)

    Totally agree with that :)

As we all know each program is written differently and finds different items - need to run both. Spybot then AdAware seems to be the favoured route.

With all due respect, I cannot understand Lonny Jones' first post in this thread.
If I carry away anything after reading Lonny Jones' first post, it would seem he has done exactly that. And that is why I questioned why he felt one was better than the other. (As you can see, I have taken no position on which is better--just questioned his apparent position and also asked if perhaps there was not confusion with HiJackThis.)
If a recommendation of one spyware detector over the other was not what Lonny Jones meant to impart, then I would appreciate learning what the message was.

    Hi Jim
It was'nt aimed directly at you ,as if you might start a which is better, I apologies.

    I might better have said
I didn't want to start a which is better debate
In the future I will not state a personal preference without saying so .

Most everything Ive learned was from here windows BBS :)
its repeatedly recommended to use both tools and always scan/fix with SpyBot first.. I guess this is because Adaware in the past had the habit of breaking the Lsp Stack as will SpyBot just know
,if you happen to have the wrong bad-ware to fix ,thats all.

This would be no problem for most of us here ,but new users would have big problems ,we would either have lspfix handy or uninstall reboot install windows communications. if a connection coulnd be established..

Lonny Jones--OK, so I understand your first post to say:
"Normally I prefer SS&D but because of the bug in the present version of SS&D (which disables Winsock when certain spyware is removed) we should not be recommending it, until the bug is fixed. "
I have no quarrel with that.
    :D
