    Hello Folks,

I'm using an old TNC (Amateur Radio Modem) on Com 1 (serial port). I get it to work, just fine, but I have to uninstall Com 1 each time I boot my machine. If I don't, it shows that Com 1 is busy. After it reinstalls, it shows the port as NOT BUSY until, once again, I shut down the computer. This occurs whether I have the TNC on or off or, have the modem cable attached or not.
I've set the serial port in the BIOS to both Auto and Enable to no avail. I've left the IRQ on 4 and 03F8-03FF. I don't know if changing it to IRQ3 would make any difference? AIDA shows IRQ4 as exclusive to Com1. I may be "off track "?

    Ideas?

    Thanks,
    Mikel T

This usually indicates a bad driver. Any updates available for your OS?

There are no drivers from the manufacturer. It's using the WinXP driver. No new updates from Windows.

As you probably know, TNC Labs is out of business. There don't even seem to be any Win 2000 drivers floating around.

My only suggestion is either to try other drivers, which may be risky, or get a new modem.

    Hi Abraxas,

This is not a TNC modem from TNC, rather it's called a TNC which stands for Terminal Node Controller and is the interface between the computer and a "Ham radio" that allows you to send digital data over the air. It never came with its own drivers. It works with the generic Windows drivers BUT, you gave me an idea. I believe there may be an upgraded EEPROM from the manufacturer and I'll email their Tech. Support and see what they say? Maybe they've encountered this problem, before?
Their web address is www.kantronics.com (my older "TNC" is called a KAM ALL MODE).

    Thanks for your help,

    Mikel T
