I have been using Netscape Communicator for years and Netscape 7.1 as well recently. I just had to reinstall Windows XP Home. I then downloaded both Netscape 4.8 and 7.1. I had no trouble transferring my old mail to 4.8 but can not even open 7.1. When I click on the icon on my desktop, nothing happens. I have moved my salted profiles to the recommended folders. Any ideas?

Moving the .slt folder is not enough, because you do not have a working link between the Profile and the Program. You will need to create a new profile. Only then you can copy the old information and paste it into the appropriate subfolders, etc. Please use Ramona's excellent Netscape Solution, as a starting point, and yell, if lost. http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/index6.html#7profile

    Hi,
I am having a bad time starting up my netscape. My Fresh new Win XP just installed won't let me access my netscape 7.1 like some person before me. I went to the post that was recommended and followed the instructions at http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/NS7newprofile.html to no avail... I click on the Profile Manager selection and I get a flash of something and then nothing more, I am back to my view from which I clicked ... I did a search on the word profile, and found Profile Manager in C:\Documents and settings\All Users.Windows\Start menu\Programs\Netscape7.1 can anyone help me on this?

For a number of reasons I reinstalled Windows XP again, and this time opening Netscape 7.1 is no problem. I then followed the instructions on http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/index6.html#7profile and everything is working now. Thanks to all who replied to my original question.
