    THANK YOU

Arnie, I do not use IE as my default (use Mozilla), but there are times when MS or certain sites (AV/Trojan/ScumWare) scan sites require it's use. At times I will slip and start moving through the web with IE in it's default settings... as your "Safe Settings" indicate, not wise.
Side question when in "MS default IE settings "..
When I go to a page like Free Online Scanner (which is a safe site) and you click on the "Scan my computer for Trogans ", your next screen view is "displaying the contents / file tree of MY hard drive. There were no permissions given, it just did it. Now if an unscrupulous web page writer chose to utilize the same mechanism, just how much access does he have to my drive?

Yes, and if you put in the settings as I indicate this will not happen!

You will get a pop-up box:

"Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly. "
